Lyrics “Christianized” by (me!) Sandra Harrison Kay, AKA: WriteousMom
Backstory: we love this song! If a live band starts to play this song at a dance club.. my sexy would immediately give up his place as the next person in line for our cocktails, grab my hand, and we hit the dance floor
***
It is on my commercial free shuffled playlist for our workouts, so I hear it often; love to watch how my sexy lights up when it comes on..
But me, I’m not so comfortable with the lyrics.. and, so.. I have been divinely inspired to, with love, truth & humor, Christianize them. And.. in prayer, I said to Jesus with a smile, I said,
-I want it so that even Too Short himself would be moved & get to laughing “Thank You Jesus!” amen.
*** if i had the means/resources i would have a music video made, but i can write now.. do this:

Y’all can’t read all that…
GOD IS GREAT, LIFE IS GOOD PART TWO by (me!) sandra, tvgp
original post date (?) -2009.
a gorgeous day!
walk to the farmer's market for my fresh flowers, + hug and quick visit
orange juice, banana nut bread on the patio at rising loafer.. where i met the owner mary, for the first time.. i've seen her/talked with her.. have been going to the rising loafer every now and then for several years in fact.. but only yesterday learned mary is the owner
and she is quick to give credit for rising loafers success to her long time employees..
i do think they must have the lowest employee turn over on main street, and i enjoy seeing these familiar faces, month after month, year after year. always great service; great food
plus I LOVE anywhere i can sit and eat outdoors. -at my table for two on the sidewalk/patio, one chair was occupied by my 3 bouquets of fresh flowers, which meant raymond had to sit on my lap
raymond is my new true love. he makes me think AND laugh, which caused me to draw a heart shape next to his name in the book i'm reading
oh! he made me laugh so hard telling his cathedral story.. honestly.. couldn't stop laughing to finish the story; had to take three long breaks
but he can spin a tear-jerker too, and with equal skill
i found myself -not near tears- but in tears, at the rising loafer. such a beautiful day.. wonderful morning.. sunshine, fresh flowers, fresh orange juice, families filling the sidewalks with strollers, dogs, children, shopping bags from the farmer's market, to-go containers from the local eateries
and there i am falling all to pieces. stuck in the hospital waiting room with howard and ann, waiting for dr. francis.. our 8 year old son in a coma.. maybe. or maybe not.. we don't know yet
i realize i should not be crying on such a lovely day.
it's only a story... it's only a story
and so i close the book and day dream some. watch the passersby.. nibble on my banana nut bread
damn you raymond carver! open the book and keep reading
feel i'm being watched from afar. notice in my peripheral vision that some feet, some legs.. they have not passed my table by, but have come to a complete stop
i look up to see bernie berke (my former flute teacher. twosguys.com) and his wife linda -always a pleasant surprise, and i'm so relieved to have this chance to close the book and visit
learn linda loves the short stories too.. so i share more about the book i'm reading.. show her the table of contents and LOVE how many authors/stories she knows and can recommend
i glance at my hand-scribbled notes next to the names in the contents section.. the hearts.. the stars.. and then ..
i flipped quickly to page vi, vii. -where she sang the praises of shirley jackson, franz kafka, herman melville. and page viii, where she sang the praises of isaac singer, and we were triggered to talk in more detail about joyce carol oats
and here is my confession about joyce carol oats: i devour her televised interviews. i devoured her journals. -but have not read her novels. and hers is THE ONLY story in this book, the art of short stories, that i leaped ahead to read. but wished i didn't.
anyway.. while linda and i were chit-chattin' about authors/short stories, bernie went and visited with friends at casa madrid, where he performs on friday nights -AND- he snuck back to the farmer's market around the corner
set down a big basket of fresh strawberries on my table before leaving. -and.. save the date/join me because i'm really looking foward to seeing him/claude perform may 7th at studio 7 art gallery on the corner of main & w. angela
THANKS BERNIE! THANKS LINDA! -great seeing you as always
and THANK YOU DANA GIOIA/R.S. GWYNN!
this book is a dream come true for someone like me.. because a) i love biography b) i love short stories c) i love discussing the craft of writing d) i love learning about other cultures/places/people in the world
here it is! all in one book.. organized/edited.. wonderful. -and as linda also pointed out, when i told her about how this book contained all those elements
"we had to search forever to find that kind of information about authors before.. you had to go to the library and research if you wanted to know more about the authors of your favorite stories.."
AND I ALWAYS WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE AUTHORS OF MY FAVORITE STORIES -don't you?
so, very nice to meet you raymond carver..
next stop was alexander's fine art gallery a little further down main street, to congratulate and celebrate with gary winter & other local artists and art-app

reciater friends
it seems a year or two ago, gary pulled a napkin from his pocket.. told me about his upcoming idea.. showed me the draft for "SNgear"
the story behind "get your S.N. gear" /how to motivate without really cussin'
and now here he is with a whole, beautiful, creative, inspiring line of SNgear products, "to motivate & inspire. a lifestyle brand company

with a concise rule of conduct, "put it in gear"
t-shirts; coffee mugs; paintings; music; jewelry. i've eye-witnessed his idea grow from paper napkin to popular product. -and the people he's inspired in the process!
claudett mcdermott got her SNgear.. and was invited/sparked/inspired to create a line of jewelry. darling/charming earrings, keychains and necklaces with beads and gear-looking embellishments... (will post picture soon of my purchase & gary/claudette)
michael dean got his SNgear.. and was invited/sparked/inspired to write & record a SNgear song.. "it's wonderful!" -i listened

to it myself during gary's reception. -and learned how the invitation from gary winter to write this song, inspired michael also to finally record some other songs that have been in waiting for some too long of time..
and there are more, others.. creative people getting their SNgear thank you to gary winter
i just looked around and couldn't stop smiling.
noting how none of the products on the table -none of the t-shirts, paintings, coffee mugs, jewelry, music, etc.. existed this time last year. how each and every item manifested as a direct result of one man honoring his inspired idea, acting on it; inviting others to do the same
he walks what he talks, gary winter. got his own SNgear and is leading by example

and i note again:
everything that exists was first a thought.
think good thoughts. then get your SNgear...

PRINCESS OF THE ROCKBIBLE RUMMAGE SALE (me!) sandra, tvgp
i knew the write thing to do. it involved taking my niece to the farmer's market
-get her out of the house, give my sister, dealing with arm pain from a herniated disk, a little break
but, "God," i said. "know how much physical energy i have? i know you do.
ZERO!
and psychological energy... less than that.
i'm wiped out! i've got a big fat nothin' to give"
and sometimes, i hear back, but i didn't.
what did happen,
is that i got myself up out of the open coffin position i was stuck in on my bed, got myself cleaned up enough to appear in public
and brought my niece to the farmer's market..
only, we got distracted by a clown on the way...
short story, shorter: that clown was holding a sign, directing (or should i say, re~directing) us to a rummage sale going on at
rockbible church
next thing you know, my niece has i~spied a friend from school, and made friends with a couple others.. they all found a double-stroller from the rummage sale, to keep them entertained, and some giant empty cardboard boxes, to play house and school in on the lawn

and i spied a friend too..
doug linman.. "i'm so tired today," i said, "just need a place i can sit down"
and that doug linman.. who apparently arrived before 6 a.m. to help set up the giant rummage sale, and was busy helping any variety of vendors and customers -he still took the time to find me an old rolling office chair to sit in..
plopped myself in with the weight of the world on my shoulders
"God," i said, "thank you."
had a place to sit where i could watch my niece play at the same time...
then, -scott, i believe his name is, and who i would later find out is the pastor of rockbible... he smiled at me, as he walked by, said, "you sure look comfortable. anything else we can bring you?" he was being funny, but i said, "as a matter of fact.. sure could use a place to put my feet up"
next thing you know, i have a cardboard box to rest my short legs on
heaven.
i just made myself so comfortable.. sittin' in the middle of rummage sale.. any number of people walking by, shopping, visiting...
just about everyone who passed me by gave me a smile, and some comment about looking really relaxed..
princess of the rockbible rummage salei noticed a beautiful crystal glass on the table next to me.. had a tiny chip in it, but i decided as the now official princess of the rockbible rummage sale, i should not be drinkin' my water out of a mere plastic bottle, now should i?
so i poured my water in the crystal glass. -so there i was, checkin' in on my niece every few mintue

s, while i relaxed on my thrown, feet propped up, sippin' filtered water from this beautiful crystal glass
and there happen to be a fireplace screen next to me also..
and silk flowers
and it was a beautiful, sun-shiny day.
then i heard, "you work at ruby hill don't you" -and i smiled, said yes.. and all of me wanted to visit, and all of me wanted to explain i wasn't lazy; this was not my usual self
but i realized in advance it would take too long and too much energy to explain my lack of energy, and so i just smiled and talked a little bit. i offered no explanation for my lethargy outside of,
i'm tired today, and i knew to just relish and go along with the princess status comments
and i knew to thank God
'cuz, it's been said before, and is worth saying again
if you'll do what you can do, God will do what you can't do.
truth is, i did not have one ounce of energy of my own.. but i somehow got up and got out of bed. and normally, my niece, who requires a tad bit more time/energy than the average almost 8 year old does
normally, i would have been holding her hand, walking her from booth to booth, getting a little bit more involved in conversations with friends, and strangers too, for that matter. but it took all my energy to just sit there and be a good sport
but look closer at how that worked out
i did what i could do; show up
and God did what i could not, and did not have any plan to do: providing my niece some friends to play with
-relieving me of the time/attention she would normally require, deserve and demand
and God provided me a place to rest
in style.
Thank You Jesus!
"hallelujah! & amen!"
****
i'll be moving soon. God has further blessed me, through friends, with a beautiful room to rent, from a beautiful person, and in a beautiful part of town -community pool/hot tub included -and safe, comfortable accomadations for my children. the room is twice the size of the one i've been living in for 2+ years, and has a window at eye level
but just about everytime i think or say or hear the word -move
i fall all apart
in fact, i'm going upstairs write now to cry for a while.
Poetry in Progress by (me!) ~topps, sandra, writeousmom
-sometimes poems arrive to me fully formed
-others just a few words.. i work out the rest
-still others, a begining, and ending, one or both, i fill the rest in
and sometimes, just the idea of... i work out the whole thing
-sometimes they rhyme; sometimes they don't; sometimes they are hybrids
-some are short, some medium, some epic..
****
sometimes i have time, immediately to work the poem out to completion
sometimes, i don't.
sometimes, it arrives in small pieces, over a long time; sometimes pieces throughout a week; or a day
****
all of that to say: i have 2 poems currently in progress and i do not know when the windows of time will appear for me to complete them; so, i am sharing process here:
1. zero poem (that is to be the title) it is a play on words to be sure
of course it does not mean, -zero, as in no praying.. rather, it IS an actual prayer i pray to Jesus, where i say, "return me to zero Jesus" -this is a short cut communication, Jesus already knowing what it means
what does it mean? it means i recognize at certain times in my life; in my youth; i had zero concerns about this or that.. i had zero concerns because i had not yet been exposed to the potential of something going very wrong..
i.e., zero concerns about accidents; zero concerns about getting too little sleep; zero concerns about drownings; zero concerns regarding the faithfulness of friends; zero concerns about... [fill in the blank]
now, at near 60 years old; of course i have had through actual life experience; through other people's very real testimonies; through movies; through books; through radio; through non and fiction
and these 'going very wrong' sides reveal themselves; accumulate decade by decade; i mean, can any product from food, to furniture, to gifts be purchased that does not have a warning label of one kind or another.
i pause to remember.. wow! at one point i was free from all these concerns.. what a glorious freedom we might not even realize we are enjoying! and of course,
we learn from; we learn to avoid this; take precautions here; keep your antennas up over here; take safety classes; due diligence.. we don't deny; we don't ignore; we walk hand in hand with risk factors
and i lean on.. don't worry about anything; pray about everything
this is my practice. and it takes a lot of practice. but my short cut prayer, i say, 'return me to zero Jesus!' on the inside; how i feel inside
when i didnt even know i needed to worry about.. and it turned out that i didn't.
and i do actually get to re-experience that level of peace sometimes; -imagine that.
but this time around i am conscious of it.
selah! hallelujah & amen.
******
the other poem in progress, had to do with having the light returned to my eyes.. i said that to my children long ago.. "when you two are in college, i'm going to work for former President Jimmy Carter, -help with human trafficking, and help return the light into the victims eyes
-this never manifested
however, i am aware of how evil steals the light; and how God can restore it
God placed it on my heart, that the light in my eyes.. that has been restored in my eyes
Son beams. and now that is how i look at others, the lens with which i look through..
so if i am looking at you, you are receiving the love, light, warmth, of Son beams..
and the heat too..
i can see with the ability to burn write through.. to scorch..
and this poem contains those ideas in essence.
****
zero prayer * son beams these are 2 poems in progress; brewing inside me now..
with no idea when they will be completed.
"cheers!" to the brewing process.. amen.
THAT DANCE STUDIO by (me!) sandra, tvgp
named because, I had a conversation with an adult at barone's music under the stars.. said person was self-conscious about how they danced, and so remained sitting...
I ache inside when I see self-consciousness preventing people from having fun.. life is too short!
I said with a smile, I said, "it's now
how you move.. it's
that you move.." and filled the person's mind with images of people who would love to dance if they could... but injuries, or illness, or immobility in form or another prevents...
so when you can... you should. but isn't that a lesson on how powerful self-consciousness is.. that it becomes your mind.. your way of thinking that prevents an otherwise perfectly physically capable body from experiencing the benefits and joy of movement..
I could on and on,
and I will,
when time allows, but for now..
"I have another dream!" my dancing days are far from over! you know, do you? that I began dancing at Terry Eastwood's dance studio in Hayward, California.. had the Eastwood family as neighbors...
and then when my parents divorced, the cost of dance prevented me from continuing classes..
cry, cry, cry..
and then, I taught, as a teenager, dance classes at Anne's Dance Studio, in San Leandro.. short lived,
and then, I co-created Movers & Shakers Dance class, with Kate Barton, and taught creative story telling dance to children out of Pam's Dance Studio in Pleasanton... -great time!
and,
now.. to understand my next ambition
1) picture a masterpiece painting with great detail..
2) now picture, just the colors used in the masterpiece painting, just swirling near each other; something that can be accomplished by a child, low skill level, but the colors look beautiful next to each other...
that is my point! even if you can't dance like eva igo...
it is true, that when a group of people move together in unison... even if they are not doing something at the master level..
it just looks cool to see people moving to music... together. in sync..
and so,
now I want to conclude my dance teaching career, by opening, THAT dance studio.. where seniors come and enjoy some wine, beer, appetizers..
and we move to music together..
and it's exercise, and it's FUN! and it gets people moving...
move if you can. dance! performance free...
/by that I mean, not THAT our performances will be free to the public, but rather, there will be no public performances of the dances we create. we just have fun amongst ourselves. removing that pressure, adds to the joy!
In Jesus is my eternal dance partner's -name, amen!
"911! Scissors! It's an emergency!" cries (me!) ~tops
my mom.. she wanted to print out and display a current picture of Robert & I
and she showed me the picture of us at the lone cypress..
and it is a very current picture; and it is a very good memory! a wonderful memory..
but it is NOT a flattering picture!
Good God.. i practically raced to a pair of scissors and started chopping my bangs
i can't be that ugly! please no! my sexy had to look at me like that all day?!?
and, the climate was cool and damp, so it was good for a long ride, i was glad the sun was not beating down on us while we were pushing those bikes up steep hills
but it was awful for my hair! and i worked so hard on it before we left, wanting to look good for my sexy
anyway..
i gave my mom a look, that translated said,
please do not display THAT picture...
and then she pointed to the picture i keep as a screen saver on my phone
and we were able to track that one down.
it is one of my all time favorites, and much more flattering
all good memories attached too: barones, where we met...
and my sister's 50th bday, which was an utter, total, and complete blessed time!
and i do wish..
that every good memory i captured was also a personally flattering picture
but the odds are against that..
so, i try to focus on the memory/experience.. and block out those unflattering pictures
and keep them all
but display more selectively.
Thanks Mom! I love YOU! xoxo
and for the record: i over-reacted and over-chopped my bangs, until they were way too short, and very crooked... "911! bang extensions... someone help!"
it's just hard getting it write sometimes, write ladies...
amen.
BALD MEN by (me!) Sandra, tvgp
Yes.. And so I cut my hair real short.. Only what a hack job I did with a pair of old, dull scissors. So I went to a professional and had it repaired...
I feel so naked. Liberated and naked. That's a dangerous combination isn't it.
Anyway.. Every single time I see another woman with a super short hair cut, I stare at her for moment...
As most of them are strangers to me; passersby.. And I have nothing to compare them to.. No before/after reference..
Seems like theyve had short hair all along...
But I know this is not the case.
And so I just wondered to myself if aging men go through this too..
When they finally decide to cut their hair super short.. Or just go ahead and go bald..
Do they feel naked? Liberated? Do they notice write away.. Every other bald man..?
I'm filing this under.. Moving Write Along.
high, HIGH, recommend! "encore!" by ~topps
we loved it, robert & i. -i laughed out loud several times -a treat in and of itself. light-hearted humor. the premise is wonderful.. -easy, actually, in this digital era, to imagine.. (no pun intended); having an enormous amount/piece of true history utterly deleted and inaccessible -erased from the world wide web; online access
it's going on as i write this; individual's are at the mercy of coders, programmers, -search capability
/and a very valid reason to hold on tight to BOOKS, paper, -writings from the before
different subject though, let me return: and while it is easy to imagine an entire piece of history suddenly inaccessible/erased from online searches
the writers/directors require (ask) the audience to just kind of go along with the sudden absence of any/all non-digital, tangible validation; evidence, if you will; like.. albums, posters, etc.
i was glad to go along with the overall premise, and just 'let it be'
i realized the demographic of 'beatles purests' ive met throughout the years, -well, i could already hear their argument, which goes something like this: because the beatles music itself is all masterpiece, and revolutionary -just about ANY story you tell, ANY movie you make, which uses and shares beatles (oh, so sorry, please forgive, i mean) Beatles music, is by default, going to be great.
but their point: the movie will not be great because of the writing or story; its great because of the music -and this does give me pause. how much to credit who for what?
but i love the movie. cast, stellar. writing, fun. direction; wonderful. editing -what needed to be done to move the story forward; done with creative flair
i love that it is PG13 -would love G even; and enormously grateful it was not R (which, in 2024, is more like XX was in 1970's -and this mainstreaming of sleaze makes me recoil inside.., but again, different topic, allow me to return)
i love the music.. i can sing along with just about every...
but, let me share this, at the high risk of losing 10 friends the moment i do:
if you said, 'Sandra.. free tickets to see the Beatles or Pay to see Entourage -concerts are same night; choose
this would be a no-brainer for (me!) /yes.. hear Beatles friends proves you have no brain..
because i'd rather spend an evening dancing and listening to live music vs just listening, and Beatles music to me is listening music. i am highly sensitive to lyrics; the writing, the story of any given song
which is another reason i love this movie and the Beatles music which inspired it
well, you do not need to.. that is i do not need to, even just for fun and experiment, re-write and Christianize or clean up any Beatles music lyrics
and they certainly are not a Christian band, but their lyrics were written during a more
-during a less sleazy time.
it was not, in my opinion, a 'more innocent' time; but it was a less sleazy time
and that's 200 more pages, so let me skip that too..
all anyone needs to do is juxtapose any Beatles lyrics from their era to the current (i've mentioned this exercise before: Stevie Wonder's Days I WISH song, and Train's song: Calling All Angels)
-and that lily james; i hope she regards it high praise how often she reminded me of keira knightley; -some of the mannerisms from another masterpiece movie: the imitation game
and speaking of masterpieces.. part of the reason i was extra interested in this movie, yesterday, is because i saw an association with slumdog millionaire; which i also consider a masterpiece
so,
PG13; loved the premise; glad to along for the ride; stellar cast across the board; joy/laughter; masterpiece/revolutionary music i know the lyrics to and can sing along and re-appreciate; loved how creatively and fun the music/lyrics were incorporated into the greater story; delighted in the 'messages' of the movie -temptation to claim lyrics/music as your own when it appeared there was no risk in getting caught; living a lie; the effort to come clean.. the enormous JOY and happiness great music brings people, families, societies; -the lure of fame/fortune; the emptiness of fame/fortune; -being the parents/friends of a famous person.. the presence/accessibility/absence/erasing of memory itself;
the value of shared memories; true love, friendship..
and there is more of course,
but, HIGHLY RECOMMEND. and "THANK YOU!" for this movie
"ENCORE!" to the Beatles, and "encore to THE ENTIRE TEAM involved in the making of Yesterday"
amen & amen.
-speaking of; i did a brief search because i do want to know -would love to know Paul McCartney's TRUE thoughts on this film...
-still searching... still searching... -gave up.
No stranger to financial hardships, that's for sure -shares (me!) ~topps
oh, honey.. i know about
financial hardships! i will just skip to a memory that captures my experience:
i am divorced, two children, and spousal support was terminated (2009 represents hardest time)
i am renting a room, working three jobs.. hourly wage does not even come close to taking care of living expenses
i have to save! -save for who knows how long to take both of my young children to the movies
so excited to offer this when a movie comes out at theaters that all the kids want to see (and all of their friends had already seen)
hiding my struggles from my children, not wanting them to experience my stress..
so i say to them.. "i want to take you two to the movies!" -all proud and excited..
and then they look at me, so happy.. "can i bring my friend too..."
and i could feel in that moment.. my entire insides collapse. i only had enough money to get just us 3 tickets, and had pre-purchased $1/each candy from courtyard marriott because the price of treats at the movies was out my reach
but i could not let them know
"well,
ummmm, ok.. let me think about this for a minute..
...., i wonder... do you think it would be okay, well, if i pick them up.. i can pick them up and drive them and bring them home...
but, they're going to have to buy their own ticket okay... " i had to make certain in advance that i would not end up at the box office window for tickets, and then tell the kids 'sorry, i cant get you in'
****
my memories of not being able to provide.. not being able to keep up; my memories of working so, so hard just to rent a room, but share that room with boxes, because i could not afford both a room for rent and storage at the same time.
these memories are still fresh, and still make me cry..
-some make me laugh too..
like,
my thursday nights at barones, music under the stars.. the very thing that help me keep my sanity.. live music, outdoors, fresh air, i love to dance! i was surrounded by 100's of slightly intoxicated happy dancing people; a wonderful vibe.. gave me strength for the days and week ahead; refueled me.
i suppose people might not guess, -watching me smile, dance, enjoy pride n' joy live.. or entourage.. some of the best bands the bay area has to offer..
i suppose no one would have guessed or imagined,
but,
they have a cover charge. it has changed over the years, but, i think it was $10 at the time,
and i will not forget, how one day..
i went to the ATM machine..
and for those of you who have never had financial struggles, you would never think much about this,
but with ATM bank machines, the lowest amount you can take out
$20.
i did not even have $20
so i walked inside U.S. Bank, on main street in Pleasanton, and stood in line to see Cynthia
-she knew me.. my sister, our families, our ex-spouses, our bios..
and she knew our financial situation
but she didn't seem judgmental; she seem to understand
"well, guess what.. i can't even use my card.. i think i have $12 though.. and i need it for the barones cover... -wipe me out to zero! i want it all... "
-danced the night away.. (wow! im still so grateful to all the dance circle friends.. motown..)
and locked eyes with Cynthia a few times from across the dance floor. She was there too! We could exchange smiles and winks..
and for those of you who have never experienced anything like this..
many of us have.
that's why this song became as popular as it did (as it is). not only does it have an awesome dance beat
but it is a kind of anthem. "...knew my rent was gon' be late about a week ago, i worked my ass off, but i still can't pay it though... but i got just enough, to get up in this club, have me a good time, before my time is up hey! let's get it now.."
"Thank You!" for writing it. -still a favorite
And fast-forward several years..
It is on the dance floor at barones where I met Robert, my sexy.. and i was renting a room at the time.. and my hair was short, and all white/gray, i had let it go natural for several reasons, but one of them was financial
that's why i love this song too "they say that time takes a toll on a body, makes a young girl's brown hair turn gray, but, honey, i don't care, i ain't in love with your hair, and if it all fell out, i'd love you
anyway.." we have many conversations, my sexy and i, many conversations.. trying to figure out the how/when/what/why's of this cost of living/wage gap/inflation/homelessness
do you think.. when credit cards.. loans..
and everyone could live outside of their means..?
no one.. no one on either political side, of any faith.. no one can stand it when they know people who are capable of working, do not work, and accept handouts.
but, we have a large population not looking for handouts.. hard working people! willing to work people! multiple jobs people! -still can't keep food on the table, or gas in their cars..
everyone sees the extremes happening.. the way rich.. the way poor.. at first slowly.. but, like technology itself, it is happening faster and faster..
stepping over the sick and poor; to open the mansion door..
and, i remember learning, long ago.. about how unique the united states was for creating a middle class..
and, i just know we can do better! but when i consider these tiny homes..
and i just know! the problem is economic..
and i just know! that if we don't address the problem from an economic/fiscal standpoint..
then,
a decade from now.. the united states will not be unique at all. and it will go on record for destroying the middle class, and creating a tiny class
-how can the absolute most amount of people thrive.. without exceeding resource/infrastructure tipping points -under what 'ism'?
it is not 'capitalism, socialism, marxism, communism..
we need a brand new 'ism' for our times.
Calling out to Jesus.. the chain-breaker, the pain-taker, the way-maker! hallelujah & amen.
REMOVE SAN JOSE'S Sanctuary City Status pleads (the wilsons! & the micks!) among many others
We do LOVE the WILSON'S! united in this good fight of faith.. and tom mention's in letter below, 'go back to enjoying retirement'
the micks & the wilson's are retired; and we do enjoy being retired.. however, we also recognize, having lived it.. when you are working full time, raising children, volunteering, taking care of family.. children's activities, homework, sports, appointments, keeping a house, grocery shopping, cooking.. cleaning.. day to day life for the HTLC Community.. [Hard Working, Tax Paying, Law Abiding, Contributors]
you are too busy doing the right things to fight this fight,
too busy doing the right things to show up for weekday, mid day meeting
too busy doing the right things to show up at night, sit hour upon hour waiting to speak for 60 seconds, where no one on council is required to answer or respond or even listen to your comments or questions
you are too busy doing the right things and we "Thank You!"
but the san jose city council members, and santa clara county supervisors, and calif governor, have taken great advantage of that truth. they know you are too busy, and are steam-rolling you behind your busy, righteous, upstanding HTLC backs..
so, we do, also feel 'blessed to be a blessing' that is, we are retired, and we can devote a certain amount of time to fighting on your behalf
we did this during NOTonNOBLE -but that did take a toll.. that was 24/7, non stop, all consuming..
so we are also careful to balance this out.. to help; but not let this consume our lives; or tax and compromise our health, as the NOTonNOBLE fight did
in this regard -we are so grateful to see OTHER PEOPLE SPEAKING OUT.. adding to the numbers; the voices, the effort.. anyone who can help; please do!

BNF's (Best Neighbors Forever),
What you wrote in your email, and what you explained in last night's meeting, sums up the futility of the homelessness issue, and the futility of how the government is addressing it. Every giveaway attracts more homeless individuals to our City. And, because we now have a reputation for helping the homeless, our city has become a "mecca" for the entire homeless nation. We have become a "magnet city," in the worst possible way!
We give so much, we are hurting ourselves, and there is no end to the needs. Our City services have been cut back for decades because the largest share of our revenue and resources have been dedicated to the least productive "citizens" (using that term loosely). I agree with Robert's position that our tax revenue would be better spent on preventing homelessness, rather than using it to shower the existing homeless with incredibly expensive shelter and services. Prevention is short term help, but once people fall into homelessness, they need long-term support the City simply can't afford.
The liberal council members, and their constituents who voted for them, are addressing homelessness with their hearts, not their minds. Most human beings, like ourselves, have a heart and want to be charitable to others in need. However, when dealing with mental illness, addiction, and criminal behavior, we must use our intelligence. Both social science and medical science (psychology) indicate that "tough love" is what's needed. We're not going to reduce the homeless population in San Jose with kindness. The path of least resistance, allowing the homeless to dictate the terms of their care and existence, won't get them out of their predicaments. Like kids, they need structure, education, and limits...they need tough love.
So, how can us "wee-little-people" make a difference? One way is to label the City leaders and their non-profits and advocates "enablers." We have done so in many of our emails, letters and public comment opportunities, but perhaps we need to step it up and encourage others to focus on doing the same. We need to press for programs that rehabilitate, educate, medicate (for depression, bi-polar, schizophrenia) as opposed to the current programs that only feed and house the homeless. And, we need Dignity Acres to immediately get the homeless off the streets and out of the parks and waterways!
The concept of not enabling the homeless is akin to the "teach a man to fish" parable. However, if a homeless person refuses to "learn to fish," they shouldn't be helped otherwise. Then, if they are not getting what they seek in San Jose--total freedom--they'll have to go find it somewhere else. The word needs to get out..."Homey don't play dat!" It may also help to repeal our "sanctuary city" status. The City could make headlines by becoming the first sanctuary city in a sanctuary State, in a sanctuary County, to drop it's sanctuary designation.
Like you guys, I'm tired of attempting to move the needle at City Hall. It is so pegged to the far left that we may never be able to inch it somewhere toward the middle. I'm torn between wanting to bring some intelligence to the debate vs shaking my head in disgust and disbelief and walking away. It's hard to determine when to keep performing CPR and when to call time-of-death.
If we want to keep banging our heads against the wall in an attempt to affect positive change, I recommend doing any or all of the following:
1. Lobby the County to step-up and provide the mental health and addiction treatment services they are required-by-law to provide
2. Put an end to the sanctuary status of both the County and the City through ballot initiatives
3. Work on the Dignity Acres concept. Address the concerns regarding land use. Explore alternatives like "Dignity Enclaves" (rather than one giant tent city--ten smaller ones--one in each District). I doubt we can ever get support for one large tent city because it will be fought hard against by neighbors wherever it is proposed.
Taking on any of the above could be a full time job, but, maybe we pick just one and see if we can make headway on it? Or, we say "f-it," put on blinders like most, and go back to enjoying our retirements!
Stepping down off my soap box, Tom
-from elva,
Praise the Lord for the Micks!!!

Wonderful letter and points. Sandra and I agree 100% with removing San Jose and the country sanctuary status. We feel one Dignity Acres facility in the outskirts away from all neighborhoods. A State built Dignity Acres in the middle of no where would work great for all California. Robert and Sandra. Tom, Can Sandra post your letter?
-------
Dear Every Single San Jose City Council Member, Mayor, and Santa Clara Board of Supervisors, -and Trump Administration
We do have to experiment with different approaches in responding to our ongoing homeless crisis.
The experiment of taking land near our newest, nicest Safeway and small business plaza, and making it a 'safe parking site' for EIGHTY FIVE RV's,
has NOT REDUCED the number of RV'S on Berryessa. Rather, the result is: there were 12.. you added new space for 85.. promising to relocate the 12.. Berryessa re-filled up in no time, so now we are approaching 100 -with ZERO enforcement on the promised 'no return' zone ordinance.
This clearly demonstrates, in a very visible and factual way, the addition of acres and acres for 'safe parking sites' does not reduce; but ATTRACTS even more RV's.
We plead you will recognize the results and try something new.
It is my opinion, you should each revisit the Dignity Acres Emergency Campground proposal. I'm under the impression you are currently wasting lots of time, money and human resources on -predictably- unsuccessful non-solutions, only to exhaust your every effort and conclude Dignity Acres has been the most cost-effective, efficient, humanitarian win/win solution all along.
With respect and hope,
Robert & Sandra Mickanen
I like it...a state funded and operated Dignity Acres! Get me the hotline to Newscum!
Although, it could bring back bad, societal, collective memories of the internment of Japanese Americans after Pearl Harbor. In reality, however, the tent cities used for internment could be a model for Dignity Acres.
Lobbying the County to provide mandated mental health/addiction services is important too, and since three of us are ex-County employees, we might have some insight and pull that could help pursue this. We can form a self-proclaimed, citizen advisory panel to pester the County into action! Playing off of "Not on Noble," we could call it "Yes on Sanity" or "Citizens for Sanity" or "Citizens for Sane Citizens." I know all this sounds ridiculous, but, so is the issue. The government's handling of mental health has been unconscionable, and now "we the people" have to suffer for their incompetence!
You guys are always welcome to post my letters. I'm thinking I can boil it down to the essentials for a future public comment as well. I very much feel the need to push the "no sanctuary," "no enabling," "no Mecca," "no magnet," "tough love" "teach a man to fish" narratives!
