Oooohhhh. -so thats a triple double. learns (me!) sandra, tvgp #warriors @writeousmom
now you know my sister and i are convert sports fans beginning last year. and we are quite devoted to our warriors, screaming and shouting and coaching and cheering from our living room..
and we have only missed seeing one game so far this season.. which does help explain how it is they are the world champions they are -write. notice the connection... soon as we started watching; they started winning..
anyway.. we are still admittedly in the ) part of the learning curve when it comes to the actual rules of the game.. and correct vocabulary.
so for example.. on the occasions curry shoots.. and the very rare occasion he misses.. and there is no one under the hoop to help -assist- it in, I've been shouting, "where is your assist?!? Assist him!! Assist Assist that ball.. Oh my God have mercy... Get back under that hoop!"
K. and I mean well.. but what my dad recently explained is that.. when, say, bogut, is near/under the hoop and magically turns an almost shot into a most definitely.. that is not an -assist-
that is called a rebound.
assist, apparently means, -if I understand correctly: when the basketball gets thrown from one player to another.. and the 'another' shoots it in.
so, k.. whatever.. either way you have one player assisting the other, but I have vowed to yell "rebound!! already.. get the frickin' rebound.. don't let that opportunity go to waste..!". Instead of " get down there and assist?!? already... you know this! come on...!"
my sister hasnt had as many vocabulary blunders because mostly she makes lots of dramatic sound effects and shouts "haven't you been practicing!?! -come on!". -and " woooo hooooo! that's what I've been talkin' about!"
-so she is in no position really to even notice my blunders and call me out on them.. like:
sister: "whats a triple double anyway?"
(me!): "it must be where someone gets three two-pointers in a row."
-she believed me. and, really i believed me too.. -makes sense doesn't it..
(me!): "you know I'm not 100% sure what it is.. I think the sportscasters just like hearing themselves say it.. 'Triple double this and triple double that..'.
***
so it wasn't until I watched a game with my dad in the room..
and if I have it correct what it actually means is:
double digits in assists; rebounds & score. minimum of 10 points earned in each category in a game...
-and I just wanna say for the worlds record: " congratulations warriors!". /and next bar I go to I'm going to order '.. make it a triple double'
-because it really is fun to say that.. and doesn't that sound delicious.
"Cheers! to authentic fanuaries....& amen!"
did he just say... nomenclature?! asks (me!) sandra, tvgp
so, I was watchin' the Warriors claim victory in another very exciting game last night, and..
"did he just say.. nomenclature?" -like; who uses this word on the streets... no one. so it stood out. and I wondered.. he must have invested in those increase your vocabulary tape cassetts like I did a hundred years ago..
constant quest for personal growth. and, so, during my life threatening commutes to and from college, I would pop one in
"accouterment." oh, I loved that one. still use it to this very day. like, just yesterday I said to my mom,
"thank you for the use of your kitchen, and all your baking accouterments."
I didn't say I use it correctly; but I do use it. and I prefer my own pronunciation to the one on the tape. they say, accou -ter- ments. I prefer, accou -tre- ments.
-tomato; to~motto. anyway.. I did just spend 5 plus hours in my mom's kitchen. yes, (me!).
prelude to her 32nd (?) annual cookie exchange party. and "thank you!" here to anne, I got myself some two-handed, five shapes at a time, lean n' roll, cookie cutters
and, I cant say anymore than that. recipes; packaging; details;
everything is top secret until the day of the
cookie exchange party. only my mom knows the secrets, because you have to call in your recipe to her, and this way she avoids any duplicates
I guess technically, if you call in a recipe, and she says, no.. you have to pick something else;
technically, you then know someone's recipe.. cookie type. but..
anyway, i'm very excited. proud of my cookies.. in the freezer write now, waiting for final creative touches the night before
and, more details later, but there will be drinking, games & prizes! .. this is no ordinary cookie exchange party I promise you. -pictures from 2014:

look how far off track I got. -back to the warrior game
lots of the time, I'm so involved in watching the actual players and plays, I don't really consciously hear the sportscasters commentary
but, exactly because he used the word, nomenclature
it jumped up and out at me
so, hey keeshie..
here's another fun fact about
TRIPLE DOUBLES
apparently the phrase "entered the
nomenclature during Magic Johnson's legendary career"
/but if we didn't at first even understand what a triple double was..
how?! would we understand
nomenclature
which I believe, should be pronounced,
I mean, if you are going to use it all, it should be pronounced, nomen~culture. that makes more since don't you agree?
why doesn't anyone ask (me!) first...

In, Jesus... vocabulary .. I sure love words like, hallelujah! name. amen!
"GRAND SLAM!" by (me!) sandra, tvgp
i really did see a grand slam -real life. yesterday morning. my son was on 3rd when it was hit.. what i can tell you, is that if my son makes it to first base.. whether he walks or runs or crawls.. he'll be crossing home plate
there's another beautiful sports analogy gift wrapped in here..
i'll help you find it. 'cuz one of my sons strengths is.. making it from one plate to the next. he's fast and he's determined. nothing do i delight in more, than watching him at a base, when the pitcher is throwing to the batter.. and my son is in position to steal
that crouch! knees bent.. arms out.. head forward. eyes everywhere at once. hangin' out at his favorite catch-me-if-you-can distance from the plate. hyper-ready for that one false move..
"gone!" pitcher over-throws and before he can even get the ball back.. jack's at second -or third. or across home plate
so yesterday.. well, i'll confess a certain.. how can i call it? well, let me just say, i'd much rather see my son hit a single than walk.. but, "good eye" and all that, he made his way to first base
i looked at him on first.. and the way all intuitive mom's can do.. i said to myself -now the fun. he'll be crossing home plate..
and here's the part where i give away how much of an active parent i am; and am not.. -because, do i know all the kids names, numbers, positions -no.
next kid gets up.. gets on base; jack's now at 2nd. next kid gets up; jack's now on 3rd.
bases loaded as i've learned to say
don't ask me how many outs.. who cares. the important thing, is that next kid up.. HE SLAMS IT!
i follow the ball with my eyes into the beautiful blue sky and by the time i look back, jack has already crossed home plate and is heading back to the dug out -then i watch the next kid come across the plate.. and another!
everyone is certain the kid at bat hit a triple.. and "wow!" -you can hear the cry of "hold at 3rd! hold at 3rd!" -cuz by this time, ball has made its way back to the infield, but no...
kid doesn't hold at 3rd. kid gets in a pickle! runs back toward 3rd.. no! runs toward home plate... no! back toward 3rd..
and then, appears to think.. f-it.. and just goes for it... dances his way write around the glove that's chasing him.. runs, slides and referee gestures and hollers, "safe!"
1st grand slam i've ever seen in my son's -i don't know what.. 7 years of baseball.
side note: this changed the score on the board to read 16 to 4. and there's another sports analogy for you.. find it yourself.
anyway.. exciting. i couldn't be present for the entire game, but i was present for that moment, and so; there you have it.
if i hadn't already been craving my time at the plate.. this sealed the deal, as they say. -we already know from my short story collections of my true life experiences -i tapped danced my way through school; no sports.
and i know today.. dance is sport, and all that.. but back in my day.. dance was for stages, and sports was for athletes. and at all the company picnics in my adult life.. no one organized a show; everyone organized a baseball game, so..
on my list of things the valedictorians fail to mention..
still, i love what see when it comes to sports.. everything it can teach. all the life analogies tucked inside everything from practice, to competition, winning to losing, and -/hurting here for the write words, -and, "so much more!"
i've such a long list of favorite sport movies.. rudy! of course, pistol pete, birth of a legend! -the passion... the heart... the determination... destinies. remember the titans! hoosiers! rocky! -the soccer one with matt damon and morgan freeman..
learn so much from the players/coaches i've seen interviewed by my charlie rose -and it doesn't matter what sport.. tennis, baseball, football, wrestling, soccer, golf...
basketball.
greats are greats. and so even though i myself have never played.. and lack the vocabulary and experience to use the analogies i do -i do it anyway. awkward but often.
and i've been thinkin'... /imagine that.
thinkin' for a long time now, how i need to get myself to the batting cages. -thank here, my uncle ernie, who recently died, after a 18+ year battle w/parkinsons, -for introducing me to the batting cages in my youth.. think i was 9 or 10 or so..
loved it! -but haven't been back since. -so, 36 years later; this hunger. to hit a ball with a bat.
and i want to recommend it for ALL writers. here's the thing.. as i explained to my daughter:
-when you are a writer
and may i say, this is even more true, if you are a blogger. -and you've been at it for a good while. well,
you have an internal feeling inside; writer's compass... artist's score card of the sentient kind, that allows you to know
KNOW
when, -here's comes the analogy... when you've struck out, hit a single, hit a double, a triple or in fact, you've
SLAMED IT! out of the park... bases loaded; grand slam!
but this is easy and apparent in baseball; unquestionable sometimes /based on the referee.. and playback videos
point is..

My last post was rudely interrupted by yet another computer that. -crashed
I go through em don't I
And I'm 10 times happier, more productive on a pc than this iPad
Kills my momentum.
I dream. Which is all i can do at this point
Of a new computer.. With an awesome firewall... Where I can sit down. Write. Upload my pictures.. Etc
Safely. In peace. This is killing me
Softly
I want to cry but will instead go back to the batting cages where I can feel the physical sensation of what I accomplish with words
Sometimes I strike out. Sometimes hit a single. Sometimes a double, a triple and occasionally
Grand slam! I want to feel it
ADVENTURES IN BASEBALL with (me!) writeousmom/Sandra, tvgp
Like, getting there. To the game. That's where the adventure begins. Especially for those of us born without the advantage of an internal compass, or the ability to use an external one. For us, it is not so poetic a journey as "the road not taken" but rather more like, "the wrong road taken; again -and again.". I'm still not quite sure how I turned what should have been a "L" shaped drive route into a figure eight, but my daughter and her boyfriend, and my son, and my niece, nephew and sister, and anyone and everyone who finds themselves trapped as a passenger in my writeousmom-mobile... Well, they've all trained themselves to be good sports about it. "It was a pretty drive" my daughter said with such compassion. "as in pretty long..." -but anyway.. We made it. And in time to witness a baseball game with a basketball scoreboard... 23! To like, 2 or 3. Now, my son has sometimes been on the opposite side of the winning team, but this time he was on the same side as the winning team, and so instead of my "you'll get 'em next time" speech, I got to give my "awesome!.... Be a gracious winner.." speech. -awesome it was! Three different homeruns... My son with a walk, a single, a double and a triple! Plus several great plays at 1st. Cool parents in the stands.. My daughter and her boyfriend making each other laugh with jokes and stories between innings, me and my handsome prince snuggled in to keep warm.. The whole game played under a gray sky with the constant threat of rain.. occasional wind blowing the white flowers from the trees like a spring snow in the stands. and I just never stop learning from watching my son play baseball.. "..not whether you win or lose.. But just how long will it take me to get to the next game?"
"winner!" new york caption contest by (me!) sandra, tvgp
how many times has this happen to (me!)..
***
but, anyway.. "thank you!" dad -finally received my new Yorker magazine; very excited! taryn too.. and yesterday during my 10 minute break
don't you know I spent the first couple minutes eating cake, and the rest.. coming up with ideas for the caption contest. if the ratio remains the same, I need approx. 10/15 minutes for every one minute it takes taryn
and I played with the idea of... relating it to digging to China; and played with the idea of accidentally time traveling write back to the same time.. and played with the idea of.. if you dig deep enough you find meaning.. played with the man-cave & docents idea...
and it felt like I was on the write track, but nothing was registering as "that's it!"
until this morning!
k..
and, just like before.. first I summoned my team. I forgot to do that yesterday, so this morning
[after prayers/meditations] I sat the magazine back on my lap, and I said,
maya, maya, maya. robin, robin, robin, ogden, ogden, ogden, ray. ray. ray. Russell Russell, russell
\maya angelou. robin Williams. ogden nash. ray orrock. Russell crowe for those of you who don't already know,
and then, I also threw in,
Stephen Colbert.. and whoever is on his writing staff..
and I telepathically requested their help and assistance. May I remind you here, that Dr Maya Angelou used to
well, she never walked out on stage to give a talk or performance without saying
'come with me'
-so, i'm in very good company, communicating telepathically with spirits
and for fellow believers; this IS how the idea arrived
and for you boring skeptic/realists; lacking imagination, stuck in the physical world types -I guess I projected/self generated an idea which somehow occurred to me, not randomly but quite predictably, if you can follow the series of events from pre- big bang to march 14, 2017
anyway..
they told me.. to see the man in the cave.. to
focus on the way his arms were folded; like he is refusing to do something
and then, yes.. I see! like a kid refusing..
and then they asked me..
what would he be refusing to do?
and then, I was like..
where's a pen? where's a pen?!
and I wrote:
"NO. I will not stand. I will not shave. I will never wear a shirt and tie!"
/mine are usually too wordy, but
I'm pretty sure i heard them applauding ...
and so, quick.. I went online to submit my winning caption.
k. wait.. first I have to .. and then... over here..
and then link my subscription.. email.. password...
okay.. k.. click here. verify that.. return over here.. find the cartoon..
like..
hey -why can't I find.. where is?!
and it was then.
it was then. -and not until then- -not-, may I point out, was it yesterday during my break. or when the magazine first arrived to my new address
it was not until then, where then ='s after I summoned my spiritual team, and after i came up with the winning caption, and after I excitedly linked my subscription, and after I could not find the cartoon for which I collaborated with my spiritual team to submit the winning caption
that I finally thought.. or rather, was forced!
to read the instruction/rules/guidelines above the cartoon that read
blah, blah... Caption submissions for this week's cartoon, by Mick Stevens,
must be received by Sunday, March 12th.
and I looked in the lower write corner of my laptop and it says: 3/14/2017.
and then..
I felt smiles and heard some light~hearted giggles from maya, robin, ogden, ray, russell, Colbert and his writers..
-now that, they all said.. that was funny.

In Jesus, blessed are those with a good sense of humor 's name.. amen!
/if we could amend the sermon on the mount, in the same way we can amend the constitution it would include that..

too many to count, but a couple stand-outs -there was the time I read the cathedral by Raymond carver, and pre-planned what I was going to wear when I met him... /and -then- where then ='s after I chose my dress and perfume.. then I read: may 25 1938 - august 2 1988.
***
and there was the time I tried to meet
Jeanette walls... and I did the read the ticket! I did! but...
***
and very, very, recently.. when Alex asked me.. "is that your vehicle in the parking lot?" and I was like, "yes" /all respectful
but internally, like, "duh.. you know that's my jeep.. what a silly question... "
and, but before he said another word it dawned on me.. "oh. this is the day we have to start parking on that other street... isn't it."
and he -with as much patience as he could muster in the moment, said, "is there not signs all over the place?"
and in fact, there is.. signs taped here. there. and everywhere... reminding all employees to start parking on a different street on that day.
and then... where then ='s after my conversation with alex; then, my mind traveled back in time, to when I showed up for work, and I thought.. oh! how nice.. look at all these open spots.. I must be early today..

and, in the words of Bishop T.D. Jakes...
"can I go deeper?"

signs and wonders. ~for those who pay attention and can see.
