Very Lucky; Very Charmed by (taryn! kiani! & austin!)
they had been mentioned in many conversations, but we had the great pleasure of in-person meeting my daughter's friends, kiani and austin, only recently
i want to start by sharing.. that, if, as young adults, my daughter and my son.. if they are as guests to others, as kiani and austin were guests of ours..
i am a very proud parent.
-so delightful! kind! authentic! and wonderful to visit with.. great sports

and we treated them to robert's highly fine tuned/perfected bbq ribs and chicken wings.. some spirits and dessert..
and we enjoyed lively conversations..
and it provided us, robert and i, the opportunity to share a brief tour of our home..
part of this tour, includes sharing how Robert's father worked for the C.I.A... how Robert was born in Taiwan and traveled the world in his youth as a result..
how, until he met me.. many of the masks, trunks, decor, collectibles, art was in boxes, stored away, but..
i helped him unbox, display and enjoy the beautiful art his parents gifted him from Taiwan, from Africa, from Pakistan, from Germany...
and we shared my studio 213 with them... and the guest rooms (which we are very proud are actually guest rooms now, and not.. all cluttered/storage clusters any more)
and we enjoyed just learning about one another.. chit chatting casually..
and at the dinner table, Robert put out disposable gloves -these are very helpful for keeping your hands clean when you are chowing down on BBQ ribs, and marinated chicken wings.. but it was a first for them..
like me, they seemed to appreciate the idea.. maybe will employ it someday at their own BBQ dinners..
but, -for me,
one of the sweetest, most memorable moments at the dinner table involved a reluctant conversation about our cereal boxes.. (the leprechaun in the room, so to speak)
i can't even remember how it initially came up, but..
to see austin, his expression... "i was wondering.. i mean, we were looking at all this art from around the world but no one was saying anything about the cereal boxes... is anyone else seeing this?"
he was curious, apparently, but not quite sure if it was mannerly to inquire..
-Robert and i looked write past them, of course.. no need to mention...
but, once it did get brought up; what fun!
"... yes!... we have art from Africa, Pakistan, Taiwan, Germany... and then a few cereal boxes from the local Target"
-so funny to see it from an outsiders perspective.
***
if you've read me.. you already know. Robert delights! in cereal boxes that celebrate seasonal occasions.. he LOVES them... stops in his tracks for them at the grocery and target stores..
-limited edition!? in the cart it goes.. -collect all 5!? in the cart all 5 go...
and, they become extra decorations/props at our house parties/dinners.. and! they become party favors we give away to the grandsons and nephews when the parties are over..
it is a super fun tradition.
-but, the kind of extra entertaining thing about the saint patricks inspired lucky charms cereal boxes is this:
our saint patricks dinner is a small, adults/couples only, sit down dinner. -no grandkids or nieces or nephews..
and even though there are no children to give the cereal boxes to after the dinner...
he bought them all anyway.
-i love this about him; among many other things..
and so,
casually, without thought really, we place the cereal boxes along the ledge of our armoire until we are ready to officially decorate for our dinner party
to us.. all makes sense..
but yes, -to an outsider...
and so, how fun it was... "i wanted to ask about the cereal boxes, but like, i wasnt sure if it was okay sense no one was saying anything..."

a toast "to how lucky robert and i feel, to be charmed by the company of my beautiful daughter, and her two delightful friends" clink/clink/clink/clink
look forward to having you over again...
hallelujah and amen.
