i've been doing some variation of this doodle since i was a teen.
at restaurants where you can color/draw on the paper table covers.. always something like this
and i think the way it got its name was because someone once asked me
"what do you call that?"
and i said, -stuttering- "it's... it's..."
and that's what i've called them ever since.

Always loved the "Itz~Itz"! With a big smile on my face....I REMEMBER WELL! Somewhere (I keep everything) I have some (unsigned/signed) copies of early "Itz~Itz". Another big smile! Remember good ol' Captain Anchovies? (My first memory of "I Spy") Sad to say it is now a main stream Walgreens strip mall. I have napkins from there, and Bayfair Food Court, the bus stop, etc. Just about anywhere we stopped moving for longer than five minutes.
I think it's amazing that alot of your early inspiration came from waiting on a simple (but, always enjoyable)Pizza! SMILE! SMILE!

mbh: thank you! -just made another one last night at stacey's in downtown pleasanton where they also have paper/crayons available
and it's the most special itz-itz of all because my daughter and son both chipped in
itz~itz naturals -great family fun.
