generational wealth! robert & sandra ~writeousmom
age.
age itself, only represents one of many, many things that contribute to 'generation gaps' between grandparents, parents, children
running neck n neck with age, as a top contributor:
music.
and so, keeping that in mind
-went down like this:
mom: that sounds creative and fun for a party.. yes! -and who is drake again?
daughter: you KNOW -drake!... musician.. i went to his concert..
mom: ? -did you have his poster on your wall at one time?
daughter: that was lil wayne -in fairness, i went to his concert too. -this is a drake era party -a costume party. so you dress like, to match one of his eras, covers, videos
mom: ok, i'll look him up. i'm in.
robert: you know drake! you already know drake.. "started from the bottom now we're here, started from the bottom now my whole team f'in here:
mom: oh! that's drake!?! i love that song! our mission peak anthem!
******
and so, turns out, WE DO HAVE A DRAKE CONNECTION! /the gap shrinks, the music assets appreciate in value
long blog post made short -we hiked mission peak in fremont with our good friends, rito, san bruno & santa maria -all more advanced than we are at hiking... advanced, as in, each time they hike mission peak, they make an effort to beat the time of their prior hike
it was a first for robert & i,
and those good friends waited, like 45 minutes, for us to finally arrive and join them at the peak.
-at some point, not sure exactly when, robert & bruno started singing, 'started from the bottom now we're here..'
which, i don't believe i had heard prior to that day..
but i loved it; loved the idea of it, and ended up researching youtube, spotify, pandora..
and then, -learned to my great pleasure and surprise there is a 'clean' version available
and,
anyway, -for the drake era party, i had to go with our one strong drake connection -that song.
if you look up the song, you'll find it on drake's album called, nothing was the same
and pretty quickly after seeing the album cover, i knew what i wanted us to wear to the party
"blue skies, white cloud suits!"
and after online searching for some unknown amount of time, and seeing prices we would never pay for just a costume; i did finally find our suits for $20! /+shipping
and initially, they were scheduled to arrive, like, only one day before the actual party. -stressful.. and i was all along coming up with a plan B, plan C.. in case they didn't show
but! answered prayer, after answered prayer.. they arrived early! and even early enough for our seamstress friend, lesa, to help with alterations -million thank you's...
and..
robert agreed not to shave his facial hair for several days.. and i filled areas in with my eyebrow pencil and blending brush to match drake's look on the cover
and, i used a hair clip to hold a pick in my hair, to capture that portion of the younger drake on the cover
and, part of the lyrics in the song say, just as a reminder to myself, i wear every single chain, even when i'm in the house, 'cause we started from the bottom, now we're here.. (repeat chorus)
-so, ordered some costume chains for us to wear too
-the whole thing was sooooo much fun!! from learning about the costume party, to discovering a hiking anthem song connection with the musician, drake, to re-listening to my favorite and several of his other songs/hits, to shopping for the suits, to having them altered to fit better, to being a make-up artist for my husband, and
to the response we got from my daughter and her friends at the actual party itself! -good, good times!
****
and it's all the kind of things that fill a parents heart -to see her, her friends, host and throw a fun, creative party.. enjoy the creative variety of food n' drink.. to mix n mingle with her long time, home town, college and work, -all extra wonderful friends.. -all thank you's, gratitude, love, hallelujah & amens
spending time with their generation, this specific group of young men & women, - gives us great confidence regarding the future of this otherwise, slightly off-track and out of balance world
"thank you!" "love you!" excellent time! fantastic memory! -keep being your awesome selves!
