Driving in Idaho with California Plates (us!) ~sexy! & tops!
i admit to being a little nervous driving all around Idaho with California Plates. But, we literally never had a problem, and in fact, several people we spoke to were originally from, guess where: California. and they even said it out loud and in public and everything. Many people who have moved from California to Idaho light-heartedly refer to themselves as refugees
in light of the current war in ukraine, (and wars on larger scales in general) it seemed not write to use that word..
but then again,
i both understand and respect it as the current colloquialism. the combination of, and accumulation of homeless, drug addicted, mentally ill and released inmates is, in my opinion, and in fact, a type of natural disaster; a very real and ongoing threat to individuals and families
i will skip here, the economic impact.. but Californian transplants are high on the blame list for the high cost of housing in Idaho (and other popular run-for-your-way-of-life states like Montana.. Washington, etc.)
and from my perspective, experience, point of view -the only thing growing faster than the homeless, drug addicted, mentally ill, and released inmate population is -inflation.
but let us save that romantic and tender conversation for another time...
In Jesus is our light in a dark and broken worlds' name, -amen.

good place to p.s. my favorite quote while visiting Couer d' Alene Idaho. It was gifted us by a young woman who, -surprise! left California for Idaho to unstagnant her life. Couer d' Alene, Idaho, if you have not yet been is a way beautiful, way clean, way safe.. spectacular place to live, to work, to visit, to hike, bike, fish, hunt.. long list here. and Idahoins' (sp?) work to, plan to, and are quite committed on the whole to keeping it just the way it is
the thing is, this young woman, like me, was from a part of the bay area which was -not the polar opposite of Couer d' Alene.. but let's say, a part of the bay area which was, and is, 'checkered' with
/stuck for a proper word.. let's skip to the quote
i said with a smile, i said to her, "yes.. i'm from the bay area too" -and my best guess is that she wanted to go out of her way to make me feel okay and welcome; -she seemed suddenly a little guilty about living in such a clean, safe.. and so she goes,
"but when i get home sick for the bay area, i go visit spokane where there is homeless and people dancing in the street."

hallelujah & amen
