We are all familiar with real world bank industry accounting; yes
the formula goes like this:
the more money you have; the more they give you
the less money you have; the more they take away.

spiritual accounting then, as experienced and witnessed and understood by me
goes like this:
the more sins (quantity/severity) you need forgiveness for
the greater His mercy will be
the forgiven sinners amount of (level of) appreciation/gratitude directly correlates to the
amount of mercy accepted/understood/received
that speaks to sin, sincere repentance and forgiveness, and!
same is true of suffering, healing and peace
the greater you have suffered
the more healing you require
the more healing you require the more you will receive
the healed persons amount (level of) appreciation/gratitude directly correlates to the
amount of peace experienced/understood/received.
that is all to say, that the reverse is also true:
if you don't need much in the areas of forgiveness and/or healing; are you awake enough to see/appreciate the blessing?
and that is all to explain:
why I am deeply and perpetually grateful.

caveat: we have a story in the bible of 10 people cured... but only 1 of the 10 (9?) returning to say "thank you!"
-there are lessons tucked in those passages about who is, and who is not, awake to their blessings
in the spiritual accounting books, there are separate columns
unconscious/unaware/asleep
entitled/ungrateful/selfish
awake/appreciative/generous
