QUEEN LIVE circa 1982 vs. QUEEN tribute, live orchestra, 2025, candle light concert
how many times did my imagination present a glimpse of the QUEEN concert i actually attended circa 1982 (?).. best live concert of my life! and i attended many.. i remember crying from pleasure overwhelm.. i remember the phenomenal, layered, unique sound, the energy of the band, the energy of the crowd, so much energy! and the lights, and the pyrotechnics! a show like no other.. grand in every way.. spectacular! and remember fantasizing the search light would land on me.. i'd be called to the stage.. [which, did not happen for me, or at the concert at all, but became a real and popular thing later.. musicians inviting audience member on stage for a brief.. exciting time]
so, at this more recent candle light concert, tribute to queen..
i would stare, really, at everyone so poised and proper in their seats..
and then my imagination would provide a vision of the best concert of my life... everyone standing, hands in the air, singing and screaming; -then i'd stare again..
the contrast was is amusing!
but in any case, "thank you!" here to our neighbor friends, eric, and ty and gina also.. each who took time to share with us about their experience at a candle light concert
which intrigued us enough to search one out we might enjoy. and, when i saw a tribute to QUEEN on the menu.. easy YES
and turns out, the venue, local for us, Corinthian Grand Ball Room, in downtown San Jose..
GORGEOUS! architecture.. interior design.. loved it as a venue
the 4 piece orchestra: EXTRAORDINARY! they sounded great! wonderful performance... and fun to hear the instrumental version.. and let your mind remember the lyrics, the chorus..
and we found parking on the side street, convenient..
and they had a beautiful bar, all candle lit, with silk flowers and sparkly decor, fun & friendly bartenders..
and you are able to bring your drink with you to your seat..
and that's the only change we would make.. future candle light concerts at the corinthian grand ball room, we would pay the little extra for a booth w/table vs. the individual chairs in the back
but our memory of this event makes us laugh too..
my husband and i,
we don't just hear music; we feel it..
and at one point robert was just lightly tapping on his chair to the beat and was rudely shushed! by someone nearby..
we were both moving in our seats...
it seemed the entire rest of the audience.. still and tame; seat statues..
honest to God, i don't know how people don't move.. "it's QUEEN people!"
-Freddie Mercury is turning in his grave... or laughing too..
they do not allow cameras/pictures until the last song,
and on the last song, robert and i both got up, took a picture or two, i grabbed a flameless candle;
and we politely scooted off to the side.. and danced and moved to the music.. with great JOY
#FASHION
i was really wanting to write more about fashion in 2025, so will share here:
i LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the jacket i wore to this candle light Queen concert!
-here's the thing. it's not a jacket i would have ever gravitated to on my own..
if i even saw it, i would not have tried it on..
but this jacket, black with gold embroidered peacocks along the bottom, was gifted to me by daisy chu,
and the moment i put it on..
LOVE.
i just don't find very many occasions it seems the write fit, so to speak..
but this one was perfect. "Thank You!" again..
"Cheers!" more tithing to our community; to live musicians.. to bartenders... to concert producers.. wonderful venues.. great evening!
hallelujah & amen
