THREES GUYS @ BLACKSMITH SQUARE IN LIVERMORE
original post 05/24/2008
started out this morning just a little melancholy having finished
joyce carol oates journal. thinking i might need to wait a day or two before starting a new book..
had my spirits immediately lifted by hanging out and visiting with friends (and strangers) at blacksmith square in livermore at retzlaff estate winery
listening to my fabulous former flute instructor bernie berke, (that's him with the sax), and his talented friend/musical partner, claude camp (that's him with the guitar) play some beautiful live music -and it's usually just the two of them- as you will see here:
but add one special guest this time out: matt finder, trombonist for the tonight show w/jay leno, and more importantly, also a former student of bernie's
as was, i would find out, -mike- the gentleman serving
bernie's look deceive, because in actuality i believe he taught music lessons
for some 30 years... -and still does
and so very fun to see the look on mike's face when asked me, "so when were you bernie's student?" -because he was fully expecting me to say.. in the 70's or 80's
took him a minute to register my answer when i said, "last year."
"last year? .. no way... i was a student in the 70's"
"well," i said with a smile, "i was a mid-life crisis student. picked up the flute for the first time in my 40's"
-would have stayed longer,
sampled more wines, but
i had driving and mommy
responsibilties next on the
nice seeing you again bernie, claude..
linda, dave, -son- (forgive me.. name?)
mike, denise -matt's family-
great music! nice meeting everyone...
thank you!
